Hiring a Disc Jockey or a Band.
When choosing the entertainment for your function you have many options. The musical entertainment should get the most consideration since it will leave the most lasting memories. As many as, 80% of your guests will remember the musical entertainment. Whether you choose a live band, a three piece trio, or DJ, consider cost, efficiency, and how well the entertainment will accompany your event. The hottest band is a great option but is it within the means and scope of what you're trying to do? Is the DJ going to play the wrong music all night? Will the three piece trio put everyone to sleep? All of these are valid questions but - here are my reasons to use a DJ for your next event:
DJs are much less expensive. A band that has a good following and a reputable name could cost $2500 and higher. The average price for a DJ is $300 and up.
DJs require less space, clearing room for more dancefloor and activity space.
With a DJ you always get the original version of songs, in some case even remixes. The band, no matter how good will always give you their version.
At most events, it is customary to offer the entertainment a meal. A band with a minimum of 4 members could increase your expenses by more than $200 depending on the menu.
DJs don't take breaks. Your event deserves continuous music playing. You'll notice when the music stops at any event the entire energy of the event changes.
Reliablity is much higher using a DJ. A sore throat won't affect the sound of the music. Can you imagine the lead singer of the band you hired for your event coming down with a sore throat the day of your event. You can't cancel the event. Now you need a DJ.
DJs have a wide variety of music. Most DJs carry hundreds if not thousands of music selections. A band may know 200-300 songs, which is amazing, but it doesn't compare to the thousands of choices DJ's have.
DJs coordinate the evening, usually setting the pace of the event. Good DJs will make sure they are on the same page with the caterer, event planner, photographer, and venue to ensure your event runs smoothly. Bands show up, set up, eat, play, and leave.
From time to time bands go through changes. A different lead singer, bass player, or drummer can dramatically change the sound of a band. If you book a band 9 - 12 months in advance it is possible you could wind up with an entirely different band than you originally booked, often with no notice to you of the changes.
DJs are capable of showing versatility. You want all your guest to enjoy themselves, which in most cases involves hearing songs they are familiar with or that they can sing along too. Give them this opportunity by hiring a Disc Jockey for your next event.
